Handcrafted Jempinis wooden Frog carved on to a Mushroom, on Chinaberry parasite wood
Parasite wood carvings come from parasitic plant, a mushroom-like growth that imbeds itself into the bark of a Chinaberry tree and gets it's nourishment from the tree's sap. These parasite growths are so hard and dense that they don't decay when the tree is dead and rots away (leaving these parasite growths to be picked up and carved into beautiful creatures by the talented Bali artisans)
Measures approx. 17cm width - Dolphins measure approx. 10cm from nose to tail
These beautiful pieces are individually hand crafted by skilled tradesmen in Bali. The trade in Bali is generally small scale cottage industries, often family based, and strict guidelines are followed to ensure Fair Trade is provided. Trading with developing countries is an attractive alternative to aid in that it helps their economy to grow, generating wealth that will, in time, filter through to the whole population and avoid the need for aid whilst allowing its population to retain their pride and give them hope for the future.
Each piece is unique, and the main picture is a good example of the item you will receive.
